What are the acronyms for the different types of uniforms?
When placing an order on our website, these are the uniform types we carry and their abbreviations:

What are the different types of fonts available?

What does RETIRED mean?
Retired is just a polite way of saying used.  If you order a Hero On My Arm purse and choose to have it made using a retired uniform, it means that it HAS previously been worn by a soldier.  We choose only uniforms in good condition, no stains or damage, however uniforms (especially the ACUs) do fade.

How long does it take once I place an order before I receive it?
You should allow up to 8 weeks.  Each item is custom made and we make every effort to complete orders as quickly as possible, while giving each the time and attention required.

Do you accept custom orders?
Yes! If you don't see what you are looking for, feel free to contact us and we'll arrange your custom order.

Is my credit card information safe if I order online?
Yes! All of our credit card payments are processed via PayPal.  This means that we do not have access to or store any of your personal information.

May I pay with a check or money order?
Yes.  Mail payments payable to POLKA DOT DOOR BOUTIQUE to:
Polka dot Door Boutique
P.O. Box 415
Blanchard, Oklahoma 73010

What is your return policy?
New and unused merchandise if it is defective in any way is always returnable.

What if I have a question about how to order a Hero On My Arm bag using my own uniform?
Click on the link on the left side of the page that says "HOW DO I ORDER?"

Can I place an order over the phone?
We prefer if you place your order online, but if you need to place a phone order, you can call 202-681-4376.

What are the dimensions of the Hero On My Arm Handbags?
The bags made from your uniforms do vary slightly in size- depending on the size of the uniform provided- but the approximate dimensions are included in each purse style description.  The dimensions for our most popular style, the ABIGAIL, are:

Small Bag: 12 X 9 X 6

Medium Bag: 15 X 10 X 6

Large Bag: 16 X 12 X 6

What do the names of all the bags mean?
The bags have names just to make ordering easier.  We chose to give our bags the first names of the First Ladies of the United States.

Do you have a store somewhere that I can visit?
We do not have a retail store, but our design studio is open to the public and located just south of Oklahoma City in Blanchard, Oklahoma.  We are 35 miles southwest of Tinker Air Force Base, and 60 miles northeast of Fort Sill.

I think that we may live in the same area, can I drop off uniforms/pick up purchases to avoid shipping charges?
Yes, our design studio's address is 116 N. Main Street in Blanchard, Oklahoma and the design studio's hours are Monday-Friday from 9 am to 3 pm.

Once I send you my uniform, how do know its mine, how do I know the purse I get back was made with the uniform I sent in?
Each uniform goes into its own very large plastic bag as soon as we get it.  Finished purses go back in the same bag until they are shipped.  We PROMISE we won't mix up your order!

Can I have the scraps from my uniform back?
Yes, but you MUST ask for them back and pay the $3 shipping fee when you order.  We won't send them back to you unless you specifically request it.

What if I don't have a spare uniform to send in?
When you purchase, simply choose one of our uniforms.

Are the purses washable?
We recommend that you spot clean your Hero On My Arm bag.

For the new Army uniform (ACU) can I velcro things on my purse?
Yes, everything that you can add to the uniform, you can also put on your purse.  This means there will be velcro for both name tapes, rank, and on both sides of the bag (sleeves) if the bag you order has sides.

I saw someone with a military uniform purse, did you make it?
Probably!  We've made well over 10,000 purses in the past 7 years, but without seeing it, we couldn't say for sure.  We have a photo gallery at the top of the page, it contains many of our past designs.

Who actually sews my purse?
We have a production team of 5 seamstresses located in the Oklahoma City metro area.  Many are not only accomplished seamstresses, but also have personal ties to the military community.

When I was searching online I saw military uniform purses with a name very similar to yours, is that your company too?
NO.  They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and we just happened to come up with what we think is a great name, HERO ON MY ARM, and apparently others think so too and have chosen names very similar to ours, but if it doesn't say HERO ON MY ARM, its not us!

What makes your bags different from others that I've seen?
We offer a wide selection of both purse styles and options, to fit almost any taste.  We also allow you to send us your own fabric if you don't see one that you like.  We offer not just purses, but also accessories and other gift items.  From a construction stand point, our purses are durable, they won't loose their shape, functional and stylish at the same time.  We believe in customer service and understand that the military uniform you send to us is very special to you- we promise to take great care in transforming it into a Hero On My Arm purse, and we stand behind our work.  If you should ever have a problem, we are happy to fix it.
